"Oooh! What does THAT button do?"

Yesterday I stayed over at my friend Kyle's house, after work he picked me up from City Centre and drove into Paisley. We grabbed a couple pizza's from Domino's which was really refreshing seeing as how i had not had a takeout pizza in over a month or more. When we arrived at his flat we flicked through his cable and found On Demand episodes of Dexter's Laboratory, probably one of my most memorable cartoons growing up. We also watched this movie based on a series called "Dirty Sanchez" based off a "Jackass" type program with stupid stunts, 3 Welshmen and an English guy. Absolutely Brutal. Double the extremes off Jackass, and half the fan base. I listened to Kyle's demo tape this morning of his 2 piece group, "One More Then One", and it was a solid demo, almost like a blues soothing rock vibe with catchy harmonies and was well produced for a local studio. Today I'm working at 2:30-7:30 at Starbucks. I've also drank an entire carton of orange juice from the morning seeing as how I found one for 95p at Morrisons Grocer. for the cheapest I have yet to see. The fun and exciting perks of having no money.

They have a new 8 song demo you can download on their myspace and a t-shirt or tape on REACT!'s myspace, take a listen and see what you think. It's got a New York Hardcore vibe to it with a Youth Crew rhythm. Anything on REACT! records these days has had my attention.

Craving

Sunday, March 15, 2009

As of lately I've just been training at my new job in Starbucks inside the Borders bookstore, City Centre, Glasgow. Everyone there is super nice and I've even met a couple guys I work with that are into hardcore. Over the weekend I worked, enjoyed some amazing Scottish sunshine and listened to this bagpiper jam with 2 bongo drum musicians in the middle of Buchanan street..... for like and hour. Our fridge at home still remains to be spotless and we are more then desperate for a good food run.

Today
-woke up much too late, almost 1am
-ate a couple raisin cookies and an orange for breakfast
-went into town and check out "Focus" a skateshop in Glasgow, flipped threw the "Made For Skate" book i had heard good things about and woulda bought if it wasn't $37
-grabbed some junk chinese food at "Chopsticks", only thing that appealed was i finally ate from a Chinese takeout box for once in my life
-headed to Carleys church thing and killed some time/talked to people
-went home and did a lot of non-productive things

Rollins Thrashin'

Came across a cool vintage article on Thrasher Magazines website with an '82 edition of the seasons magazine and stumbled upon an interview with Black Flag along with some cool photos of skaters like Rodney Mullen and Steve Caballero pulling off some freestyle slalom.

Take a look for yourself at Thrasher's website.

This Means More

Saturday had Mexican night over at the apartment with my sisters boyfriend and his older brother. I spent half the day whipping up the much craved burrito necessities, chipotle style chicken, spicy corn salsa, fresh guacamole, refried beans and sautéed veggies. After destroying 2 massive burritos, everyone had a rest until someone cracked open the Monopoly. I hadn't played for years and didn't remember anything about the game, needless to say i was the first to lose investing all my money in the wrong properties and  Mark(Carleys boyfriend) managed to reign victor. Everyone packed it in after 12 and I jumped into bed.

Sunday I crawled out of bed later then expected but it was cold and rainy outside throughout the morning and my bed was warm. Eventually i grabbed a bowl of cereal, cleaned up, made a spanish omelette and met up with Leigh in Clarkston at the Bean Scene for a visit. Leigh had to go home after an hour or so, I caught the bus into the city and went to Borders to kill some time. After a snack run to Sainsbury's I met up with Marks brother to head off to Carleys church C7 at the local Hilton hotel. I'm agnostic but the people there are nice and i find that the pastors preaching can often be applied to life in general, not necessarily just with Christianity. After talking with everyone afterward and meeting a few new people, Carley, Mark, Richard and Myself all crammed into Marks Volkswagen and proceeded home.

Today
-Woke up at 10 to 11, had some breakfast
-Continued to read my Vlad novel
-Read some emails
-Cleaned up, headed into town with my sister
-Before parting, Carley and I stopped by her Starbucks for some more free beverages

-Went to Sainsbury's for some more oatmeal cookies and Banana yoghurt

-Popped into Avalanche Records to see what's in stock

-Started to think of making a Zine about hardcore, movies, food, concerts ext.

-Picked up my "Watchmen" ticket for 3:40, while waiting 'til the movie showing I stopped by Primark to pick up some last minute work clothes

-Got to the theatre and sat through cinematic genius

Somehow?

I managed to find rootbeer in Glasgow or possibly all of Scotland. Funny, considering that it was imported from India and I found a stash of it in a chinese grocery store called Chung King, it doesn't taste like i hoped but its the closet I'm gonna get to the real deal.

Halloween '09

I am really looking forward to Halloween this year. With only a few months since the last, October '08 was amazing. Trick or treatin' with my ex-girlfriend and her little sister, going to Shane's party with best friends and girlfriend all one place in one night, driving to Greg's house afterward and watching "The Strangers" with 2 people who hadn't watched the film, and crashed overnight. It was my best Halloween yet but somehow I must trump last years Halloween, this year. I'm thinking that the beginning of October I'll be making some major prep time for the big day, movie nights, costume work, concerts, parties ext.

Waiting On

I'm looking forward to coming home to a little bit more to add to the collection. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get my turntable to work since I brought it across the pond(Scotland), i totally forgot about the European outlet plugs and i think i might have busted it with this shitty adapter my sister has. I'm craving a Chipotle burrito, Dads rootbeer, sunshine, Loaded Vanguard, and movie nights with my best friends.

A Long Time Comin'...

So it's officially been too long since i've posted an entry in this blog, let alone wrote anything personally in the past 4 months. The update in my life is I'm living in Glasgow, Scotland now with my older sister in a apartment just outside the city. The past month has been pretty slow for me considering i haven't spent any money other then the basics and I'm starting to appreciate how good living at home is. I'm loving the independence of being on my own and missing home a lot. I've just recently got a job at a Starbucks in the Borders store, city centre Glasgow and start on Tuesday. I'm extremely excited to start work, it's been over a month since my last job, I feel pathetic but relieved I was lucky enough to get a fullish-time job. Living accommodations have worked out well, I'm cooking more then ever and enjoying it more and more every day. Basically my outlet for the internet is going to my sister's University and stealing their wireless. I have been in music withdrawal the past 4 weeks, whenever the chance I get my dose of hardcore for the day! As soon as my job starts i will relieve myself of boredom and pursue my need of social-networking. Things were different to get used to the first few weeks, I was missing my friends, family, rootbeer and food back home but it's amazing to think how good it will be when I come home for the summer knowing that I beat a Canadian winter for the first time in 18 years.

My Day:
-Woke up at 10
- Cleaned up the apartment
- Got into my novel "Vlad: The Last Confession" given by Jaces parents before i left.
-Caught the bus to city-central
- Stopped off at borders for a good hour or so indulging myself in some free reading, keeping up to date with hardcore, looked over a couple Skate magazines, and looked through this really cool novel about war propaganda posters from the first world war to present day
-Swung by Carleys Starbucks workplace, scored a free coffee and hungout
-Picked up some amazing oatmeal raisin cookies at Sainsburys
-Headed to the university
