"Family Day" a recent national holiday in Canada was today, so The Charyk, Neville and Magner clan skooted up to the great north. With poorly insulated boots, food on the grill and a death defying hike down the river, somehow we just made it out alive.

This LP is out in a matter of days, the album was streamed up on their myspace and is awesome so far. Think Lux Interior meets power pop, rock n' roll. Check it out.

Chuck Ragan live at The Wrong Bar

After 20 minutes of trying to find the venue and parking, I caught the end of Dave Hause of The Loved Ones set with just a couple songs but from what i heard, he was awesome, will check his music. The Cavaliers played next, there a indie/country/folk band locals from Newmarket and Toronto area. I couldn't help but be mesmerized with the girl in the band... and she had a really nice voice. The Cavaliers were really harmonious, talented songwriters and had some great riffs and fill ins during songs. Tim Barry of Avail played next and had an extremely positive reaction. His mike and guitar cut after the first song, so he decided to sing about 2 songs with the crowd acapella until the sound guy finally fixed the problem. Tim had some really insightful and interesting stories to share with the audience before playing each song and it really gave me a higher appreciation for his music. Firstly, Chuck Ragan puts on an incredible live experience. Throughout the entire set the crowd was won over, he plays with such passion and gives the fans such a kind hearted presence. Chuck clearly shows he loves what he does with his music and really unites with his audience. The charisma between Jon Gaunt and Ragan was unbelievable, between the violin jigs and harmonica solos, it was almost too much to grasp. The set was at least an hour long, covering songs from a lot of old stuff, Hot Water Music covers and a couple of his new tunes. Throughout the set, all the previous bands joined Chuck on stage and became a part of the stage.
After the show, i made way back to my car in the nipping cold but only to stop by M&B Yummy Vegetarian Delights. I grabbed this awesome vegan chicken wrap for 5 bucks, and I can't relate it to anything thing I have ever eaten. Something like a roti, but the spices and dish were so different. Will go again if ever in the area.
